Creating a Luxury Holiday Rental from the Ground Up

For The Wild Root Cabin, it began with a conversation at the 2025 Glamping Show.
That’s where we first met Jess, who arrived with an exciting ambition: to create a completely new luxury holiday rental business from the ground up.
Unlike many projects that begin with a site or building, Jess had already invested time in defining the guest experience she wanted to create. She came armed with a beautifully curated interior moodboard and a clear vision for a peaceful countryside retreat where every detail felt intentional.
As the project evolved, so did The Wild Root brand, with the cabin becoming the centrepiece around which the entire hospitality business would be built.
The Breif: Designing the Wild Root Cabin
Working closely with Jess, we developed a highly customised version of one of our Signature Cabins, adapting the design to reflect both her aesthetic and operational goals.
The result is the Wild Root Cabin — a contemporary rural retreat with a warm, layered interior inspired by modern country living.
Features include:
- A large panoramic star-gazing window above the bed.
- Carefully considered interior detailing.
- Natural textures and calming materials, including reclaimed wood panels.
- A spacious open-plan layout.
- Premium finishes designed for year-round comfort.
Every design decision was made with the guest experience in mind, creating a space that feels luxurious without losing its connection to the surrounding landscape.
A Hero Luxury Holiday Rental
From the very beginning, the Wild Root Cabin was designed to be the flagship accommodation on site.
Rather than filling the site with identical units, Jess chose to create one premium luxury holiday rental alongside two beautifully crafted shepherd’s huts. This gives guests different ways to experience The Wild Root while allowing the business to appeal to a wider range of visitors.
Creating a standout “hero cabin” can be a powerful strategy for hospitality businesses. Not only does it provide a memorable marketing image, but it also gives guests something aspirational to book, helping differentiate the business in an increasingly competitive market.
From Workshop to Woodland
Earlier this year, one of the most exciting moments of the entire project arrived.
The completed cabin left our Devon workshop and was transported to site, where it was craned into position in a single day.
It’s always a milestone we’ll never tire of seeing. After months of design, planning and construction, watching a bespoke cabin take its place in the landscape is incredibly rewarding.
For Jess, it was the first opportunity to experience the space in person.
