Buying a piece of woodland is often a pipe dream
But for nature lover Raina it became a reality when she purchased her own small piece of woods in East Devon.
In 2021 Raina bought a 1.2 hectares in East Devon in order to spend time there and manage the woodland, which forms a small part of an extensive area of forest in AONB of East Devon. The site opens out into a wooded glade close to a stream. As Raina put her woodland management plan together she approached Life Space Cabins to design and build her a woodland store to be used as forestry building to provide storage for her tools and equipment and to take refuge in should the weather turn at short notice.
Cabin Brief
Although the cabin would not be seen from any public road or path, Raina wanted a cabin that would blend seamlessly into the woodland environment. Taking inspiration from our Woodland Foresters Cabin, the cabin would include sympathetic and natural materials.
Life Space Cabins designed her a larch clad cabin with a traditional hand built oak porch and juniper green corrugated roof. Inside was kept classically simple with unpainted timber walls and plenty of storage and a compost loo.
The terrain was also an important factor when designing the cabin, as it was steep access; only partially accessed by a vehicle. So the structure was designed to be built in small sections whereby our team had to carry the timber components the final distance into its end destination. No mean feet!.
For further information about structures in woodland then we have written a post as a guide here.
