Life Space Cabins is in a sustained period of growth and we are looking to expand our team of cabin-nuts to include a workshop and construction supervisor at our yard near Ermington, South Devon.

The role will require a forward thinking and motivated person to lead on setting up our new workshop and yard, establishing systems and creating our cabins.

Life Space Cabins is a passionate and growing business, which works nationwide creating private and commercial small space solutions for discerning clientele.

Having had several projects pass successfully through the planning process and with more in the pipeline we now need to expand our capacity to construct them.

Job Description
    Key Responsibilities will include:-
  • To be able to construct cabins/buildings to the high standard our clients expect.
  • Establish and maintain security and good housekeeping of the workshop, yard and stock.
  • Periodically carry out safety checks on all working at height equipment and train staff on how to work at heights in line with company policies.
  • To be able to build, lead and motivate to ensure a productive and effective team.
  • Ensure the yard has stock available for immediate construction.
  • Act as a skills mentor to junior staff or apprentices.
  • Ensure that cabins/buildings are built in line with the proposed timeline.
  • Ensure that clients requirements are met. Opinions are encouraged and you will be prepared to input into the decision process.
  • Liaise with project manager on work in progress to ensure orders are completed on time.
  • Ensure that all company documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
 

Day to day duties will include:
  • Supervising the yard and labour resource.
  • Organise distribution of equipment.
  • Workflow sequencing.
  • Highlighting and ordering stock, quantities and shortages.
  • Updating the component schedule.
  • Completing daily checks.
  • Ensuring all equipment is in an acceptable condition.
  • Unloading deliveries.
  • Organising delivery of cabins to their final destination.
  • General organisation of the yard.
  • Being responsible for enforcing company Health & Safety policy.
  • Maintaining and instigating repair schedules for plant and machinery.
  • Completing yearly stock take.
  • Managing just in time delivery and stock levels

Skills
  • A broad spectrum of construction experience. (carpentry or joinery based ideally)
  • A person with a carpentry background (preferred)
  • Good communication skills (you will need to communicate with clients, suppliers and colleagues).
  • Clean Driving Licence.
  • First Aid.
  • Forklift trained (not essential as training will be given)
  • Appointed person Slinger Banksman (useful not essential as training will be given)
  • A passion for what we do and how we do it.
  • Will push back if you think you have a good solution, but will also take on board how it has to be done for whatever reason (time, budget, values etc).
  • Experience in setting up a workshop / understanding the flow of a workshop. Preferred though not essential.

  • 6 months probation period- review at 3 and 6 months leading to permanent placement.
  • Pay dependent on experience.
