Job Description:

We are looking for a competent carpenter, skilled in first and second fix carpentry, erecting stud walls and using modern methods of construction to help create our luxury bespoke cabins.

Responsibilities:

This is a full time Mon-Fri Carpenter role based at our workshop in South Devon, Moorshead Sawmills, Yealmpton, Devon PL8 2ES.

We work in some awesome locations all around the UK so there will be times when you have to be away working onsite so flexibility is key.

Essential 

  • Complete first fix carpentry in order to prepare timber components to create and erect studwork for the cabin shell alongside our other carpenters by following design drawings
  • Assist with insulating and weather-proofing a cabin shell, before final finishes are applied.
  • To clad cabins in a variety of materials from timber cladding, metal sheeting to shingles.
  • Complete 2nd fix carpentry, by following design drawings and specifications.
  • Installing door frames and window casements into newly created openings.
  • Working independently and safely whether in the workshop or on-site.
  • Working efficiently and methodically alongside sub contractors (eg. electricians and plumbers)
  • Complete snagging on existing cabins as required to rectify any material defects.
  • Other duties as assigned by Company Directors relative to your role and skill set.
  • Work in direct contact with our designers to esnure efficiencies across the business.

 

Key Skills:

  • A built in desire to get it right the first time.
  • A good and varied knowledge of general building/construction with problem solving thinking.
  • Own your own hand tools and keep them maintained and serviced.
  • Good work ethic and attitude, especially working within a small team. Being a mutitasker is key!
  • Maintain a high standard of work, completing the un-seen work as highly as finish work.
  • An understanding of interior and exterior décor and understanding architectural drawings if necessary.
  • Ability to work well in a team or independently on a task.
  • Ability to safely operate shop woodworking machinery.
  • Adhere to health and safety in the workplace at all times.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Having a full clean UK driving licence, in order to drive company vehicles when needed.
  • It would be desirable if you had up to date First Aid training and a Fork Lift ticket.

 

Other responsibilities 

  • Ability to to work onsite in Devon or further afield as required.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and assist with set up and take down.
  • Cover general holiday cover in the workshop.
  • Adhere to our Health and Safety and other company policies.
  • General tidying of the workshop.
  • Participate in staff meetings and take on improvements and learnings
  • Represent the company when communicating with clients where required.
  • To carry out any reasonable task requested by the directors.
  • Have the ability and means of your own vehicle to commute to our workshop.
  • Drive company vehicles in line with our travel and vehicle policy.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company and represent us in line with company policy.
