A no frills Scottish cabin

Everyone has dreamt of spending time in or owning their own private cabin or retreat in a location away from all the distractions of modern life. Traditionally a small hut, or cottage, for housing farm labourers, or for use as a mountain refuge, this Scottish bothy was built as a walkers’ retreat.

Constructed with a 6m x 6m Douglas fir frame, it contains a small gallery, a shower room, and an open plan living area with a Clear view log burning stove for that added warmth during harsh winters.

Six carpenters, One Island

Six carpenters had the once in a life time experience of spending 5 and a half weeks on the island of Oronsay off the western highlands of Scotland building this Bothy. The project was no small task as all building materials and tools had to be shipped across to the island on a landing craft which could only gain access with tides……. we love a challenge!

Exterior Finishes

The exterior is finished in natural materials: Larch horizontal cladding and shingles, with Lindab guttering finishing it off.

Interior Finish

The interior is simply Larch/ Douglas Fir boarding without any finish applied. The frame was made by Carpenter Oak from Douglas Fir cut by the team of expert highly skilled carpenters in the Devon yard.
